In Portuguese or Spanish speaking forums, I've never seen such bad reactions about Rosetta Stone. This kind of reaction is very typical in English speaking forums. I presume that's the case for most people. My claim of RS being low content and relatively slow is easily observable, but this claim of 'most of you guys are liars' could probably do with that proof or evidence you requested in your first sentence.Īnd I find it funny that people automatically assume that people with a negative opinion of RS either don't know what they're talking about or have never used it. "Very few of those same people have actually used Rosetta Stone to give a balanced verdict, they just keep repeating opinions without much practical evidence." At their price point- subscription or purchase -that's not great.
I don't fault people who choose Rosetta Stone - it's just that they can't learn more than the courses contain, and they don't contain much. It's just that no matter how you learn, the quality, quantity and method of your chosen resource can only give you so much in a certain time. People do learn differently and at different paces, and I never denied that. Other resources give you more (and expect more from you) for less.
The fact that Rosetta Stone is exceedingly slow and lacking in content is not a matter of opinion. I've used it several times over the decades as they've introduced new features and attempted revamps, but it's remained roughly the same. If it works well for some people, why should that bother you?Īnd I find it funny that people automatically assume that people with a negative opinion of RS either don't know what they're talking about or have never used it. Your opinion is totally valid for you, but again: no one learns the same way, people learn differently, at different paces, using different strategies, with different materials. And even if they have used, only by analyzing lots of cases of groups of learners and measuring results, you can actually get support for more reasonable claims which go beyond your personal opinion. Very few of those same people have actually used Rosetta Stone to give a balanced verdict, they just keep repeating opinions without much practical evidence. R/RandomActsOfLetters Language-Specific Subreddits Afro-Asiatic Languageĭo you have any studies, proof or evidence to support what you're saying? Or is that only your opinion? I find it funny, you say "Rosetta Stone" in a language group and a bunch of people immediately react negatively (perhaps it could be justified when it used to be very expensive, but nowadays it's just a few dollars for a monthly subscription), some even act hysterically as if it were the coronavirus or language learning.
